Thanks BEST for the OSMOS!

I wrote the BEST grant in November, it was approved in December, and we are up and running in January! The students are loving the Osmos! We use them during  Daily Five and math centers!
Take a peek at a few of us in action!

I'll leave you with this joke:

Q: What do you call a snowman in August?
A: A puddle.

Friendly Letter Friday!

On Friday we launched Friendly Letter Friday in our classroom. Each Friday we will randomly pick a student to be the recipient of Friendly Letter Friday! The objective is for the students to practice writing a friendly letter. Below you will see the letter template, labeled with the parts of a friendly letter! I will put each letter in a folder and every child will take their folder home at the end of the year. Our first student who was randomly selected was Ryan. While the students were writing their friendly letters to Ryan, Ryan was writing his friendly letter to a family member of his choice!
We had a good time and did fairly well for our first Friendly Letter Friday!

Essential Question: How do you write a Friendly Letter?

The Letter

Dear Mr. Blueberry

I'll leave you with this joke:
Last night I wrote myself a letter.
But I forgot to sign it and now I don't know who it's from.

Beach Erosion

We did an Inquiry Activity to learn about beach erosion.
First we created a beach with sand. Then we added water so that it just touched the sand.
Next we took an empty water bottle and created waves. Lastly we were able to observe that the waves washed away the sand into the water - simulating what happens over time with beach erosion.
Hope you enjoy watching us in action!

Essential Question: What happens to a beach when water and waves touch the sand?

Erosion at the beach
Time-lapse beach erosion

I'll leave you with this joke:Q: What gets wetter the more it dries?
A: A towel!
