Then we got into small groups and rotated through 3 different stations.
We learned about birds, and about how what they eat is determined by their beaks. We used different "beaks" (tweezers, tongs, magnet wands, strainers....) and picked up our food (off the tarp) and put it into our buckets. WOW, seagulls can get anything!
And we got to explore a bird skull and bones.
In another station we got to investigate leaves and match up the pictures with the winter plant life.
The 3rd station that we rotated through was the insect group. First we got to play an insect bingo game that taught us how to identify the different insects.
We also worked together creating life cycle puzzles
And finally we got to investigate different classifications of insects.
Then of course we did our journals!
Learning is great fun! Thank you Audubon!
How Birds Survive The Winter
There is a part in this video about countercurrent exchange which is a bit confusing. However, I think the rest of the video is informative and the birds are very interesting to watch. Enjoy!
