if we are adding 2 + 7, we would count on from 7,"8, 9" ~ 2+7=9. To help us with this strategy we played a game. Each set of partners had a deck of cards. They divided the deck into two piles. Each student flipped over the top card and the student who said the answer first got to make a tally mark under his/her name. It is a great way to ensure that we start counting on from the greatest number. It is a lot quicker to count 7, "8 ,9" than 2, "3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9". We had a lot of fun playing this game and practicing our new adding strategy! Take a look for yourself :)
