We are learning about the Commutative property of addition

Our markers help us to see that 3 + 8 is equal to 8 + 3
That's the commutative property of addition!
It really just means that you can add numbers in any order.

8 + 2 = 10
2 + 8 = 10
8 + 2 = 2 + 8

Standard:
1.OA.B.3

Operations & Algebraic Thinking
Understand and apply properties of operations and the relationship between addition and subtraction.

3. Apply properties of operations as strategies to add and subtract. 2 Examples: If 8 + 3 = 11 is known, then 3 + 8 = 11 is also known. (Commutative property of addition.)

Thanks so much for volunteering to read. I have assigned each reader a specific Wednesday of the month. For example, Alexis is assigned the first Wednesday of each month so therefore she will start on November 4th. Nell is the 3rd Wednesday so she will come on the 18th. Obviously due to holidays and professional development days there will be "days off". These days will not be made up. If you are unable to come....no worries, just leave me a voicemail so I will know. You may also "switch" with someone if that works. Again, just let me know.

If you have any questions, please call.

Below you will find the schedule to begin November 4th and end April 27th.

1st - Alexis Winslow and Evangelea Kelly
2nd - John Cataldo and Miika Ebbrell
3rd - Nell Johanson and Kim Cullinane
4th - Sharon Stearns and Georgia Brian

First Grade Math

We are off to a very good start in first grade! This week in math we have been working on the numbers to 10. Below the children were making cube trains to demonstrate
"one more than"  and "one less than". We all did a great job!
Just a reminder that the First Grade Open House is next Thursday.
I look forward to meeting you all!
Have a wonderful weekend!
